Monmouth CastleMonmouth Castle is a Grade I listed building and scheduled monument.

The castle is located near the centre of Monmouth on a hill towering over the River Monnow, behind shops and the main square and streets. As the birthplace of Henry V of England, it stood until the English Civil War when it was damaged and changed hands three times before being slighted to prevent it being fortified again. After partial collapse in 1647, the site was reused and built over by Great Castle House, which became the headquarters and regimental museum of the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers.

Nelson GardenThe Nelson Garden, on 13 Chippenhamgate Street, at the rear of No.18 Monnow Street, Monmouth, Monmouthshire is a 19th century garden that was the scene of a tea party held to honour Lord Nelson in 1802. The garden is one of 24 sites on the Monmouth Heritage Trail. It is bounded on the south by the line of the medieval town wall through which it is entered via a short underground passageway. The garden is open to the public between April and September on Friday 2-4 p.m.

Monmouth (Welsh: Trefynwy meaning "town on the Monnow") is a historic county town in Monmouthshire located on the South Wales and England border.  It lies at the point the River Monnow meets the River Wye and is in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The bustling town enjoys excellent communication links being only 36 miles (58 km) north-east of Cardiff, and 127 miles (204 km) west of London. It is within the Monmouthshire local authority, and the parliamentary constituency of Monmouth. According to the 2001 census, its population was 8,877.

The town was originally the site of a small Roman fort, Blestium, and became further established following the Normans building of a castle around 1067. The town's mediaeval stone gated bridge is the only one of its type remaining in the UK. The Normal castle later came into the possession of the House of Lancaster, and was the birthplace of King Henry V in 1387. In 1536, it became the county town of Monmouthshire.

Today, Monmouth is a tourist centre being located in the heart of the Wye Valley, as well as a market town. It now acts as a shopping and service centre, and as a focus of educational and cultural activities, for its surrounding rural area, and is linked by the A40 road to the M4 motorway at Newport and the M50 at Ross-on-Wye.
