It's easy to maintain lists and databases of just about every type of information you can think of.  Data lists can be configured to hold text, documents, pictures and photographs, audio and video.  Columns/fields can be added to data lists easily allowing rich meta-data to be stored and used for indexing and searching.  Data lists can be configured for individual list items to require check out before editing and can also be set to require approval before changes are published.  Version history allows all changes made to data list items to be recorded automatically when data is edited.  The great thing about data lists is that whatever type of data is stored, you can easily ensure that users have centralised access to current versions of key data, documents and policies.
